25-minute DVD — “Good Food TV”

A registered dietitian demonstrates quick, low-cost meal and snack recipes and explains healthy tips about food preparation to various guests. The video is on a continuous loop allowing it to run throughout the day, and it is available in English and Spanish.

Please visit the Good Food TV English and Spanish video.

Display Unit

A 22” x 28” bilingual poster in English and Spanish with the headline “Foods to love, for the love of your family” encourages clients to pick up the brochure and recipe cards. The poster comes framed in your choice of an acrylic stand-alone kiosk or wall unit, or it will be shipped to offices to be inserted into existing metal stands. Those who select the last option will receive a new metal brochure holder to replace existing acrylic brochure holders. Brochure and recipe cards are displayed in an attached brochure holder.

Brochure

English and Spanish versions of the brochure provide helpful tips on preparing healthy foods, cost-saving ideas for food shopping and more reasons to use food stamps for good health. English | Spanish

Recipe cards

Eight take-home recipe cards, some of which feature recipes demonstrated in the video, offer meal ideas for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The recipes have all been tested among low-income audiences and were selected based on ease of preparation, affordability of ingredients and cultural relevance. The cards are two-sided, English on the front, Spanish on the back.

Tips for Success

Based on input from evaluation of the FSORK in food stamp offices and from regional Food Stamp Office Coordinators, below are some helpful tips on successfully implementing the kit.

  • Place display unit in location with high visibility but where staff can easily monitor and clients feel comfortable accessing materials. Next to the video screen may not always be the best location as clients may feel awkward about taking materials while other clients are watching the video.
  • Develop a screen time plan for how often and when the video should be played to make sure the video is played a set number of times per week.
  • Identify a staff member to monitor the playing of the video including the volume from the video unit based on waiting area noise levels. When possible, utilize the client window area or other areas of the office to encourage interest in the video, recipes and brochures by placing signage provided in the kit.
  • Keep in mind that when clients view the video more than once, they may retain the information provided about healthy eating and using food stamps to purchase healthy foods.
